Six Sigma “Analyze” Phase Tollgate Review (#48)

After our Lean Six Sigma classes, we offer a Tollgate Review for our students to follow to help them achieve project completion for Lean Six Sigma Certification. Each Tollgate Review is a checkpoint for knowing whether or not you have completed each goal in the DMAIC.

Once complete, you can move on to the next stage. These checkpoints also prevent you from missing anything in your project; which propels project success.

At the “Analyze” stage, the project team will meet with the Project Champion to discuss if the team’s work and objectives have met expectations. Referring to the project plan will let everyone involved in the project know if they are performing as expected and if they have achieved what they should at that point in the project timeline.

“Analyze” Tollgate Checklist:

Qualitative Analysis (FMEA)
·         Has your team already developed a Failure Modes and Effects Analysis?
·         Was the Cause and Effect Matrix used to determine 5 (minimum) Key Inputs?
·         Did the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis produce any quick wins? What was the team’s response to these results?

Quantitative Analysis
·         Which Statistical tools did the team use to examine the data?
·         Did your team collect data to conclude which variables are “Critical” by using the Multi-Vari Analysis?
·         Did your team examine the data graphically by using Basic Quality Tools?
·         Did your team develop Hypothesis/Null/Alternative Hypothesis statements for the examined data?

Quantifying the Gap
·         Has the COPQ (Cost of Poor Quality) been defined and supported through analysis?
·         Did the team amend the project’s projected financial savings?
·         Did the team amend the problem/goal statement based on the information learned during the “Analyze” Phase?
·         Were any supplementary assets found as a direct result from “closing the gaps?”
·         Did any of the “quick fix” projects provide monetary assets?

Analyze Deliverables:
Improved Project Charter Problem Statement indicating a better awareness of the process problem.
Supplementary causes of deviation quantified and prioritized through statistics.
Confirm “Vital Few” aspects using Multi-Vari tools.
Represent Data through Graphical Analysis by use of Basic Quality Tools.
Present Regression and Correlation Analyses
Hypothesis/ Null/ Alternative Hypothesis Statements have been refined based on Data Analysis.
Hypothesis Test Result, P-Value and Data Intrepretation
Potential problems in Project (Scope) identified and defined; including solution instructions
Next step documented
Project Champion Approval.
