Is White Belt Training a Waste? (#28)

Is White Belt Training a waste? Absolutely not! During a Lean Six Sigma Onsite deployment, a foundational step in a successful deployment is training your White Belts!

So now the question you should ask is “Who should be trained as a White Belt in my company?” Every person who is involved in the Scope of the Lean Six Sigma deployment should be trained as a White Belt. For example; if the Lean Six Sigma deployment occurs within the purchasing department of an organization, then every employee that works in that department should be trained as a White Belt.

Why is White Belt Training important? Well, the underlying cause is to educate your employees about the importance of the Lean Six Sigma Deployment in order to reduce their fear of the deployment. If an organization fails to reveal why the change is necessary, the deployment will surely fail.

Several of your employees may have already been involved in previous deployments at other companies that failed and will be fearful. Those with a bad taste of Lean/Six Sigma will corrupt the idea to all employees. Also, if your plan is to reduce manpower and fire employees though your Lean Six Sigma deployment, the employees will be fearful, have a negative attitude towards the change, and the deployment will ultimately fail.

The White Belt Course is the first four hours of the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification Course; teaching all employees within the scope the foundational points of Lean Six Sigma. Though the White Belt Course is relatively shorter than the other Belt Courses, it is not one that should be taken lightly.

Without the understanding and acceptance of your ground level employees, your deployment will fail. If the course does not interact with the students, providing games and simulations on an adult level, they will get bored and tune out.

You should not only try to educate your employees; but also get them excited for the change!

SSDSI offers an Onsite White Belt Training as a four hour workshop that offers all students interactions through videos, simulations, and entertaining games. It is a fun, active course that will keep them all engaged and captivated.

Our goal is to get your employees excited about the upcoming Lean Six Sigma Deployment! We also allow for them to propose their own fears about the deployment in a safe environment so they can be resolved.

After the workshop, your employees will be excited and ready for action!
