Three Significant Characteristics of a Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leader (#11)
A productive Lean Six Sigma
Strategy Leader is vital for LSS project success. Every year SSDSI will instruct
hundreds of new Change Agents (LSS Yellow, Green, Black Belts, etc.) through our
public classes hosted in 34 different locations across the United States,
Dubai, and London as well as private, on location trainings. When students
leave our courses, they leave with an energy for change and an energy for success.
They are excited to begin their projects!
When new Change Agents
are partnered with skilled Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leaders, these agents have a
better chance of project success and completion versus struggling through a
project alone. Everyone hated group projects in school, but Lean Six Sigma
projects are critical towards organizational success and having a helping hand to
guide you through that project will undoubtedly guarantee you a better chance
of success. Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leaders support their Change agents to a faster
and higher Return On Investments, or ROI, from their projects outcome.
From our experience
with Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leaders, most of them have three distinct attributes.
1.
Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leaders lead with Data
They understand the power behind the metrics! Using
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) as a control measurement, allows all levels
of the organization or department to understand the impact their actions have
upon the company’s success. The Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leader uses the KPI’s
to help prioritize Continuous Improvement projects.
2.
Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leaders act as a “Bulldozer”
Avoidable road blocks are the fastest way to ruin a
Change Agent’s drive and destroy their spirit. When a Change Agent attempts to
complete a project on their own, they will likely “step in someone else’s playground
and get punched in the nose.” Without a Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leader, a
Change Agent will likely tackle a multifunctional project that leads them into
other departments, who may not be open to suggestions or ideas from the Change
Agent. A Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leader is viewed as a champion in their field,
someone who is an expert on their subject and can explain the importance of the
Change Agent’s critical projects to those department leaders.
3.
Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leaders act as a “Cheerleader”
Actions speak louder than words and we like to say the
best way for a Change Agent to learn is for a Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leader to
“Lead by Example.” Companies undergoing Lean Six Sigma Implementations need
their Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leaders to live by example, because their Change
Agents will follow that example. The Cheerleader motivates and promotes the Lean
Six Sigma methodology as how the organization will do things moving forward. Using
coaching and evaluations to connect project results with effects on KPI’s, the
Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leader will promote the methodologies of Lean Six
Sigma.
Lean
Six Sigma Strategy Leaders have a crucial impact on the Lean Six Sigma Project
Deployment, as well as their Change Agents. What are your opinions about the
three most significant characteristics of a Lean Six Sigma Strategy Leader?
